Tea Recipes – Various Hot Tea and Chai Tea Recipe

Vanilla might not be part of a traditional version of chai, but its not an addition you want to miss. It helps to mellow out the spiciness of the tea.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 3 allspice, whole
  • 5 cloves, whole
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 vanilla bean (1-inch)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 tbs loose black tea leaves

How to make:

In a saucepan, heat water along with all the spices. Bring to a lower simmer, and let steep for about 5 minutes. Add tea leaves, and continue to steep for another 5 minutes. Strain out the tea, and stir in honey. Serve hot.

Masala Chai Tea Recipes

Ingredients:

  • 4 tsp loose tea, usually black
  • 1 piece of dry ginger
  • 3 cardamom pods, crushed
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1 piece of cinnamon stick
  • Milk and sugar to taste

How to make Masala Chai Tea:

Chop up ginger into fine pieces, and break up cinnamon stick. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil, then add tea leaves and all the spices. Let everything brew at boiling for 30 to 45 seconds. Remove from heat, then let steep at room temperature for another minute.Strain out the tea and pieces of spice. Serve hot and fragrant, with only a touch of milk or sugar.


Kashmiri Tea Recipe

Powdered almonds make this chai a little bit nutty, and you can really taste the cinnamon and cardamom as well. If you don’t have real saffron (it’s very expensive) you can always leave that out.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp loose tea
  • 4 cardamom pods, bruised
  • 1 small cinnamon stick, broken up
  • Saffron threads, a pinch
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbs finely powdered almonds
  • Honey, to taste

How to make:

Mix everything except honey and almonds in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and let tea steep for 5 minutes. Put a teaspoon of almonds in the bottom of each cup, and pour hot tea over. Sweeten with honey to taste.

Cran-Ginger Tea Recipe

A tangy blend of ginger and cranberries. This tart tea recipe will make your taste buds jump for joy, and wake you up in the morning.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tea bags
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1/2 cup ginger, fresh and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup cranberries
  • 1/2 cup cranberry juice
  • Pinch of nutmeg

How to make Ginger Chai Tea:

Steep tea, ginger and cranberries in water for 15 minutes. Strain and add nutmeg and cranberry juice. Serve warm.

Saffron Tea

Beware, saffron is mighty expensive. But it does make this tea recipe stand out. If you don’t have saffron, try a dash of tumeric instead.

Ingredients:

  • 8 tsp black tea, loose
  • 8 cups water
  • 12 green cardamom pods
  • 8 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp saffron threads

how to make Saffron Tea:

Heat water with cardamom, sugar and saffron. Simmer until reduced by half. Add tea and steep for about 10 minutes. Strain out tea and spices, and serve hot for 8.

Marmalade Tea Recipe

  • 5 cups water
  • 3 tea bags, black
  • 1/2 cup orange marmalade
  • 2 tbs sugar
  • 2 tbs lemon juice

Steep tea in near boiling water for 5 minutes. Stir in marmalade, sugar and lemon juice, until marmalade is melted and well mixed. Strain if desired and serve.

Serves 4-5

Four Spice Chai Tea Recipe

A creamy chai with the zip of whole peppercorns.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbs black tea leaves
  • 1 3-inch cinnamon stick
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 4 whole black peppercorns
  • 4 whole cardamom pods
  • 4 tsp sugar

How to make:

Heat water to simmering and add tea leaves. Let simmer and steep for about 3 minutes, then stir in the sugar and spices. Continue to simmer for another 5 – 10 minutes, depending on how strong you want your chai. Then pour in the milk, and keep heating until it’s all warmed through. Strain out the spices and serve hot.

Mulled Pineapple Tea

Almost like a mulled cider, but with pineapple juice and hot tea. Not all tropical-tasting drinks are cold and summery.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups pineapple juice
  • 2 tea bags
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 lemon, sliced

How to make:

Heat water and pineapple juice in a saucepan, until boiling. Add cloves, cinnamon, lemon slices and tea bags. Simmer for 10 minutes. Strain out spices and tea bags. Serve hot for 4.

Chocolate Mint Tea

Ingredients:

  • 6 mint tea bags
  • 6 cups milk
  • 6 tbs hot chocolate mix

How to make:

In a saucepan, heat milk with tea bags until almost boiling. Steep for a couple of minutes and strain out tea bags. Pour our 6 mugs of milk, then stir in a tablespoon of chocolate powder in each mug.
