Green Tea Dosage

Green tea has been used for its health benefits for thousands of years in China.  It can help aid with anything from headaches and body aches, to even preventing cancer and aiding in weight loss.  It originally comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, which is also the source of black and oolong teas.  The difference lies in the fact that the leaves are not fermented when used for making green tea; therefore, it contains the highest amount of polyphenols, which are a group of chemicals with antioxidant properties.

Green tea is very safe and it is really only those who are sensitive to caffeine or pregnant women that need to limit their intake to 2 cups a day. As with anything, common sense is needed.
So does that mean, to limit the side effect of green tea, we must have less and not get the amazing benefits from this natural herb? Absolutely not!
Obviously, you can have decaff tea, but the process used to strip away the caffeine cancels out many of the health benefits, and is therefore not recommended.

Green Tea Dosage- How Much Green Tea to Drink a Day?
This is one of the most popular questions when it comes to green tea. It is especially important for people who want to lose weight with it, since they want to get the most effectiveness of this supplement.

The green tea dosage can vary widely, and comes in a few different forms, including dried tea leaves, tea bags, capsules, and tea extract.  The most important thing to do is read the labels and know what you are looking for.  While there is no real set dosage for green tea, most of the studies are based upon the typical amount ingested in Asia, which is about 3 cups a day.  If you are sensitive to caffeine, you may want to start out with 1/2 to 1 cup a day, until you know how you will react to the tea.

If you are drinking cups of green tea or iced green tea I would recommend eating at least a cup after eating. With this presentation I don’t really have a fixed amount to drink during a day. What I have done -with great success is drink cold green tea whenever I felt thirsty. However, you shouldn’t drink it alone; make sure you also drink pure water throughout the day.

If you are looking to take the capsules, the average dose is 100 mg of extract that should be standardized to contain at least 90% total tea catechins and at least 70% ECGC.  It is also possible to find multi-vitamin-mineral-supplements that contain green tea.  This is one of the better options, as you not only get the benefit of the green tea, but also other substances that work in synergy with it to give you optimal results.

Using green tea extracts of 350mg, I’d recommend taking 3- 4 pills a day. These pills should be taken after each time you eat: breakfast, lunch, dinner. The fourth pill can be used if you eat anything else or just to boost the effects by little.

Finally, if you plan to drink green tea as a combo with extract pills. Here’s a great tip on how much to take a day: Take 3 pills a day, one after each time you eat. And also while you are eating, instead of drinking what you usually drink, take green tea. This one method is the one I’ve been using lately and has helped me be healthier.
