How do you choose good quality pu erh ? What is health benefits of Puerh tea? Where to buy puerh tea online ? How to brew it ? What types should you choose? Get the answer here !

The Facts About Pu Erh Tea

Pu-erh is a large leaf variety or Dayeh, and is grown and picked throughout the year unlike other teas that require a dormant season. Although dark pu-erh tastes much like black tea, it is not black or oolong, but falls into a category of its own.

Organic Emperor's Puerh Tea

Processing is similar to black tea, with the exception of a couple steps. The tea is picked, processed and partially fired allowing the leaves to retain moisture. The slightly moist tea is then piled. The natural bacterium on the leaves creates a reaction similar to that of a compost pile.
The tea is then aged, in special underground rooms or caves, adding to its unique character. One of the most significant distinctions is that pu-erh tea gets better over time.
These aged teas are prized and can be found in vintages, like wine, some dating back 40 to 50 to 100 years.

How to brew Pu Erh Tea

The two main classifications are green pu erh and dark or oxidized black pu erh,. Dark pu-erh is just that, dark, due to the initial oxidation done before firing, like other black teas.
The dark variety is the easiest to brew; unlike traditional tea preparation you can’t over brew this tea. Prepare pu-erh tea with the hottest water possible and steep for 5-7 minutes or longer if you like. You can wash your tealeaves once or twice to optimize the flavor. No matter what you do it is almost impossible to ruin this tea.
The tuo cha, meaning pressed, is a black pu-erh tea. Tuo cha’s were developed in early China trade because the teas were bulky and hard to transport. Tea was pressed to compact the leaf, reducing the size of the loads for long journeys.

It was early 2000 when white Pu-erh tea entered the mass market. White Pu-erh tea is made entirely from the uppermost tender buds of the tea plant. The highest quality buds are gathered exclusively by hand in the spring. These large, succulent buds are highly valued and only a limited production can be made each year.

There are a couple of things to consider before judging your taste of pu-erh tea.
1. The tea comes in an enormous variety, not just dark or green, but in many types of both categories.
2. Many types smell earthy or even a bit fishy. Don’t be discouraged, the aroma is going to be very different than the actual taste in your cup.

Pu Erh Tea Benefits

* Many published studies have been done showing the enormous health benefits of pu erh tea. The most eye opening of these studies was conducted in France several years ago.
A blind study was conducted with 500 hyperlipidemia patients (individuals with advanced cholesterol conditions, usually controlled with medication). Half of the controlled group consumed 3-4 cups of pu-erh tea daily, while the rest of the participants were given something else. After a 30-day period the results showed that drinking pu-erh on a regular basis could significantly lower cholesterol and further research confirmed that pu-erh was as effective as the most advanced cholesterol lowering medications available.
* The soothing properties, aid digestion and are perfect after heavy or greasy meals.
* More recent studies indicate powerful cholesterol lowering effects, blood cleansing properties and aid significantly in weight loss efforts.

Where to Buy Pu Erh Tea ?

I Bought my puerh tea online at Numi. Numi tea puerh has many types pu erh, including : Aged Puerh Tea Brick, emperor’s puerh black tea, chocolate puerh tea blend, magnolia puerh, mint puerh, puerh mini tuocha green and puerh mini tuocha black.

How do you choose good quality pu erh ? Good Puerh, new or aged, should give you a comfortable sensation in your mouth and a sense of well-being after consumption. The flavor should be clean and brisk without any odd taste or odor. One of the most unique characteristics of quality Puerh is its lingering aftertaste, especially in aged Puerh. For newer raw Puerh, your may find it a bit bitter or grassy when your tongue first comes in contact with the tea. However, the bitterness should quickly dissipate and transform into a subtle sweetness that coats your mouth. If the bitterness lingers, it is likely that the tea is of lower quality. Low quality Puerh is also flat and lacks the body that quality Puerh offers. Additionally, the brew from good quality Puerh should be clean, bright and translucent, not dull or cloudy.

What is Rooibos Tea | Rooibos Tea Benefits ?

Rooibos Tea, also known as Redbush or Red Tea, is not an actual tea derived from the Camilla Sinensis plant. Rooibos comes from an herb, which is indigenous to the Cederburg area of South Africa. Rooibos herbal tea or infusion has no caffeine and only half the tannin of ordinary brew. .

Rooibos Tea - Redbush Tea

Health Benefits of Rooibos Tea
Apart from being a tasty, enjoyable beverage that can be drunk instead of true tea or coffee, Rooibos has the added benefit from its natural minerals and health-preserving antioxidant.
Scientists from Japan, who did studies in the 1960’s, discovered Rooibos contains powerful antioxidants that are thought to retard aging and have potent anti-inflammatory properties.
In addition, the herb is also found to contain the flavanoid, aspalathin, which counteracts the atherosclerotic processes that result in heart disease. Additional research by the French revealed that hair lotion containing Rooibos promoted faster hair growth with improvement in the hair condition — and caused no allergic reactions.

South African researches found that the polyphenol content in Rooibos is similar to green tea. Polyphenols help protect the body from damage by free radicals.
Other studies link Rooibos tea to helping lessen digestive problems, nausea, stomach cramps and constipation.
Drinking the brew can have a calming effect and has been shown to help with irritability, insomnia and depression.

Rooibos Tea During Pregnancy
Is it ok to drink rooibos tea during pregnancy? Well first of all rooibos is technically not a tea. . Rooibos is in fact a veggies from the aspalathus family.
As a consequence of this rooibos is naturally caffeine free and very low in tannins which brings many health related benefits to everybody drinking it.

The strong and aromatic taste makes it a natural substitute for coffee especially in the time of pregnancy when caffeine intake should be limited or avoided completely.
The tannins present in large amounts in teas can cause a lower iron absorption in the blood stream. As anemia is quite frequent in pregnancy or breastfeeding the low tannins in rooibos can be quite beneficial to this cause. Some studies have shown that adding vitamin C to Rooibos tea can greatly increase the body’s capacity to absorb iron and antioxidants.

Aside from that Rooibos tea can have a major role in the life of a pregnant woman, easing many symptoms that come with particular state.
Rooibos can be beneficial in states of constipation, nausea or stomach cramps. Further it can improve liver function and help in states of anxiety and depression.
A word of caution however. In many cases Rooibos is mixed with other herbs and those herbs might cause some undesired effects during pregnancy.

How To Brew Rooibos Tea
First warm the tea pot with boiling water and then place one teaspoon of Rooibos or one tea bag per cup required in the pot.
Pour over boiling water and let infuse for a few minutes. The longer it is left before drinking the more antioxidants the brew will contain.

Rooibos has a distinctive red hue and a sweet and slightly nutty flavor. The herbal infusion can be served plain, with hot or cold milk or lemon. It can be lightly sweetened with honey or sugar or just left without any sweetening. Rooibos also makes a wonderful ice tea.
In South Africa, Rooibos tea is often used in daily meal preparation because of the important minerals and antioxidants it adds to the diet. It also enhances the flavor of select foods. Just replace the water in a recipe with the brewed tea.

When it comes to herbs, traditions have changed, varieties have increased, but through it all, Parsley has just stayed Parsley, flat or curly leaf, nothing major and no need for change. Use it as an herb or use it as a garnish, it does not matter people still love it. Often used fresh or dried, fresh is more popular and has very easy access when purchasing it or growing it. Storing it is simple, just wrap it is a damp paper towel and place it in a baggie and store it in the fridge. Parsley is used for all kinds of sauces and salads. Parsley can pretty much be added to anything and is used often to color pestos but it is very frequently used as a garnish.

Throughout history, parsley has been used for cooking as well as for medicinal purposes but has also been used for a lot more. Early Greeks used Parsley to make crowns for the Olympian winners. Hebrew tradition uses Parsley as part of Passover as a symbol of spring and rebirth. Parsley tracks all the way back to Hippocrates who used it for medicinal purposes for cure alls and as an antidote for poisons.

He also used it for ridding kidney and bladder stones. Many of these prior claims have been validated through modern science and it is true that Parsley is rich in vitamin A and C and is also shown to clear toxins from the body and reduces inflammation. Parsley has three times the amount of Vitamin C than oranges do!

Back in much earlier times, any ailments that was thought to be caused from a lack of Vitamin C was treated with Parsley such as for bad gums and loose teeth, for brightening what were considered dim eyes. The Greeks almost feared Parsley because it was associated with Archemorus, who too was an ancient Greek. Ancient tales tell that Archemorus was left as a baby on a parsley leaf by his nurse and was eaten by a serpent. For this reason the Greeks were terrified of Parsley which sounds kind of silly now but it took a while for them to get over that.

Parsley was also used to regulate menstrual cycles because parsley contains apiol which mimics estrogen, the female sex hormone. Parsley was also used to ward off Malaria and is told to have been very successful in doing so and it aided with water retention as well. Although these are old wives tales as some might call them when you consider them for just a minute they really do make a lot of sense.

Some of these old remedies still are used in part today such as the use of Parsley for kidney stones, as a diuretic, for rheumatoid arthritis, as a stimulant, for menstrual regulation, to settle the stomach, and as an appetite stimulant. You can purchase Parsley juice at herbal stores and it can be very healthy for you although it might not taste the greatest it can be mixed with other juices to enhance the flavor. Dried Parsley really has the least amount of nutritional value to it.

If someone says Oregano, it is likely that you will think in terms of cuisine. You would be right as most people do think of Oregano is sauces and so forth. However, there are actual medicinal properties to Oregano as well. Oregano makes a luscious cup of savory tea that works well for gas, indigestion, bloating, coughs, urinary problems, bronchial problems, headaches, and swollen glands and to induce and regulate a woman’s menstrual cycle. Others swear that is can cure fevers, diarrhea, vomiting, and same jaundice.

In the capsule form the leaves are dried and then crushed and placed into the empty capsule shell. Further, even others use the dried leaves by crushing them and adding just enough water to create a paste like substance and use it for a cream to apply for arthritis, itchy skin, sore muscles, and swelling. For a relaxing and soothing bath use Oregano leaves in the bath water. Finally, some people make Oregano oil and claim it helps rid toothaches.

In Jamaica people burn Oregano scented incense to ward off coughs and other respiratory distresses. Oregano has been used in ancient Greece and many other places across the globe where people have found a different use for Oregano besides cooking. Oregano is a perennial herb that is relative to the mint family and it is a very important culinary herb that is used in a lot of Greek and Italian cuisines. For cooking purposes it is the leaves that are used and while some like nothing but a fresh Oregano sprig, most will agree that the dried Oregano is much more flavorful.

Especially in Italian cooking you will notice a distinct relationship between the uses of Oregano in combination with Basil. The two always seem to create the perfect marriage especially in a tomato sauce. Oregano is also used on many vegetable dishes as well as a seasoning on various meats. The Greeks would never consider cooking with Oregano in their pantry. The famous Greek salad boasts its flavor of Oregano. No one could imagine eating a piece of pizza without a taste of Oregano added to it.

Oregano is commonly mistaken for Marjoram as the plants look very similar. Outside of the kitchen Marjoram and Oregano are best friends and do a lot together. The pair has quite plentiful properties in the areas of antioxidants and antibacterial. Together they are not only a great combination for flavoring food but also for preserving it too. Because both of their oils are perfumery they are placed in many different soaps and lotions. They are also used in combination for many potpourris and home décor.

There is no denying that Oregano has been around since ancient times both in and out of the kitchen. It had many medicinal properties then and it still does now. It was used in the kitchen and it is still used there now so those from ancient times started a tradition that is still followed to this day. Oregano’s uniqueness is fully utilized in many different ways and will be for years to come.

Premature Ejaculation. We all know how important it is to get a good night’s rest. Not only does it lead to better mood, higher work productivity and increased concentration, but recent studies have also shown that lack of sleep is an important contributor to obesity. In other words, the less you sleep, the more likely you are to gain weight and be obese.
However, despite the known benefits of eight hours of shut eye, the majority of Americans are not able to get a full nights rest. For many, it is difficult to both fall and stay asleep leading to a fitful night’s rest and constant grogginess throughout the day.
For those who want to avoid taking potentially addictive prescription medication, the alternative is herbal supplements. Herbal supplements offer a safe and all natural way to help you both fall asleep and stay that way, so that you can get those eight hours you crave.
A variety of herbal supplements are available online to aid sleeping and usually cost far less than a trip to the doctor. The top five herbal sleep aids are chamomile, valerian, tryptophan, melatonin, and SAME, though new supplements continue to emerge as research in the field of herbalism grows.
Chamomile is perhaps the most familiar supplement to aid sleeping and is considered one of the oldest and most gentle sleep aids. Chamomile has a mild flavor and is most commonly drunk as a tea in the evening to induce sleepiness. Valerian is another common sleep aid and is derived from a root. While it can be taken on occasion, it is considered to be most effective when taken regularly to help with long-term sleeping problems.
Tryptophan is an amino acid most commonly recognized as the ingredient in turkey that causes that post-Thanksgiving coma. However, it can also be used as an herbal road to slumber the other 364 days a year. Supplementing tryptophan in your diet can induce relaxation and lead to healthier sleeping patterns.
Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in the body often called the “sleep hormone” because of its importance to healthy rest. Some individuals have a shortage of melatonin and may need supplements in order to ensure a proper night;s rest.
Finally, SAME (short for S-adenosyl-methionine) is an amino acid derivative that naturally occurs in the body but may be in short supply. Taking SAME, especially on a regular and longer term basis, may promote healthy sleep cycles.
Overall, herbal supplements are a safe and effective way to promote healthy sleep. While many prescription aids can be addictive or can lead to side effects such as drowsiness and lack of concentration, these all natural remedies work in place of your body’s natural chemicals and therefore have few to no side effects.
By taking these supplements, you can gain all the benefits of a full night’s sleep in a healthy and natural way. In getting more sleep, you will have more energy, better concentration, and will be less likely to gain weight, resulting in a healthier and happier you!

Size and Erectile Function.

Alfalfa, which is a perennial herb, has a long list of dietary and medicinal uses and research has proven that Alfalfa might lower blood levels of cholesterol and glucose. Many take Alfalfa supplements orally and is has been proven safe except in a small percentage of people where it produces lupus like symptoms. In the seeds and sprouts of Alfalfa, amino acid L-canavanine is present and that is what is thought to cause this reaction. However, this is not present in the leaves of the Alfalfa. The whole leaf and the herb are what are rendered from the Alfalfa plant.

Since the sixth century the Chinese have used Alfalfa to relieve fluid retention and swelling. The Arabs were the first to find Alfalfa and they named it “the father of all foods.” The leaves of the Alfalfa plant are very rich in minerals and nutrients, including potassium, calcium, magnesium, and carotene. The Arabs first fed it to their horses because they believed the Alfalfa made them swift and mighty. Alfalfa has been an animal crop for over a thousand years but is also used as an herbal medicine.

Alfalfa is a good diuretic and also a good laxative. It also works well for urinary tract infections, and kidney, bladder and prostrate disorders. The latest and greatest discovery of Alfalfa is the benefits that it might provide for lowering cholesterol because there are certain agents in Alfalfa that stick to cholesterol which keeps it from remaining in the blood stream. Further, it may also have a very strong relationship with lowering blood sugar levels.

When it comes to Alfalfa it is something that many people enjoy in their cuisine. It is good in salads and some people eat it as a vegetable all alone. Many people claim that eating Alfalfa is a big part of eating healthy. Besides wheat grass and algae, Alfalfa has the most nutritional value. It is high in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and has all of the required digestive enzymes.

It is warned by avid Alfalfa lovers that you likely will not like the way that it tastes in your mouth, it may feel like it is burning the tip of your tongue and you actually might just completely dislike it however, they urge you to not give up because it is an acquired taste and you will begin to like it. The best news is that soon after eating it regularly you will find that your appetite for heavier foods will diminish.

Alfalfa is also great for reducing fevers and is very good for the blood. It contains natural fluoride and prevents tooth decay. Alfalfa makes a great tea because when the Alfalfa leaves steep in the hot water it is a source of nitrogen. The tea is not only made for human consumption because people who grow Irises and Delphiniums just love Alfalfa tea because of the great effect that it has on the plants when used as a foliar spray. Many with a green thumb also use Alfalfa as mulch for their flower beds.

Since ancient times, large gardens have been used for growing vegetables, flowers, fruits and medicines. These gardens are called herb gardens. Some common plants grown are rosemary, parsley, sage, marjoram, thyme, mint, rue, angelica, bay and basil. Herb garden designs can be useful or ornamental depending on the kind of plants grown in them.

Herb garden designs of medieval and Renaissance Europe period are a big influence for herb gardeners today. Practical as well as ornamental, formal herb gardens laid out in simple beds date back to medieval Europe and continue to be popular today. It is very easy and inexpensive to maintain a herb garden. By practice the herb gardener can be an expert. Keeping in mind the modern times, herbs used can be differentiated as:

• Culinary herbs

• Medicinal herbs

• Ornamental herbs.

Culinary herbs are the most popular herbs like rosemary, parsley that are very easily grown and contains both annual and perennial varieties. You can also grow medicinal herbs but extracting the medicines from them is not an easy procedure. Ornamental herbs are the otherwise useless herbs, which have shown to have no medicinal value, but because of their beauty or just to add soft foliage to the garden they are still grown.

Traditional herb garden designs do not always suit our modern needs. Some of the preferred designs today are as follows:

• Herb container gardening

For beginners, container herb gardening is the best bet. They are very easy to manage and are flexible enough to be changed often. Pots or containers of different color, pattern and texture add a character to an otherwise dull and green garden. Some herbs like rosemary, which are better to keep indoors during winters, can be brought in without any fuss. Containers are easy and fun to use and soil mixtures can be adjusted without much hard work to suit specific plant needs.

• Raised bed herb gardens

Somewhat related to container herb gardens, raised bed gardens are a great herb garden design technique which allows us to amend the soil, since many herbs require more drainage than what the soil can allow. Plants like mint or weed can prove troublesome if planted loosely without planning, and this is where raised bed herb garden designs help.

• Parterre

This design gives the garden a formal and elegant look. You have to simply segment your garden into different areas for different herbs you plan to grow and hedge them in. The most popular plant used for hedging is the dwarf English boxwood. Large boxwoods can be used at the corners and junctions to add height and visual interest and a sculpture or sundial would give a nice finishing touch. Planting of herbs in threes and fives allows the eye to register the plant and move over to other groups without troubling our vision. This is a common technique used in most herb garden designs.

• Roses

Roses are one of the earliest and original inhabitants of the herb gardens. They prefer drier and sunny conditions and the foliage of the herbs provides a perfect foil for the rose blossoms. Rosa rugosa is a great rose for the herb garden both historically and aesthetically.

Herb garden designs are not too hard to maintain and can be done even by a beginner who would acquire the skills in the process. All level of skilled gardeners can try their hand in herb gardening and enjoy its simple yet effective results.
